Millions of Mauritian have been waiting for this day...Ya the day iPhone will be launched in Mauritius so that you won't need to modify it in order to use it on the Orange network. So now tech guys would be happy coz the iPhone has finally been launched in Mauritius yesterday 19 December 2008. Maybe this is strategic marketing coz many people would like to have the fashionable must have gizmo which is the Apple iPhone.

iPhone comes in 2 flavours in terms of capacity - 8GB and 16GB.The 8GB is available only in black colour only while the 16GB is available in both the black and the white colour.

Offers for the Orange iPhone in Mauritius

Lets analyze these figures above for the iPhone 16GB offer 2. After 24months your iPhone cost you Rs 45975 and for the Offer 4 it cost you Rs 60375. Now guys and girls and moms and dads to think well before buying and don't forget the 24months contract.

Cons & Counter-Analysis

(Here i will be considering the Offer 1 above)

• The call duration included in the offers does not include calls to other operators like Emtel. Implying if you call a person who is an Emtel Subscriber you will be charged separately according to the current call rate from Orange to Emtel(Rs3.40-Because we will be postpaid clients ) - See Tariffs Here


• The talk time,amount of data to be downloaded and the amount of SMS you can send cannot be carried forward to the next month which is quite a waste cause i don't think that all people talks for 9.1 Hours monthly. Neither will people use 200SMS. Lets assume they use the 200SMS which makes about 6 SMS daily. 200 SMS=Rs100


• What about those who don't use Internet. I think they are at loss..Taking the case of 250Mb=Rs 2560 at LOSS coz your My.T is idle at home(Rs 0.01/KB download on mobile while supposedly unlimited with MyT). And let me remind you, those having My.T will prefer to use the WiFi connection they have at home cause we hardly get to download with the Orange FAIR USAGE POLICY. You will use the Internet maybe in bus to check you mail or download small things on the GO but I'm sure you will prefer to download you programs at home and install it via iTunes. If you don't download anything but just check email on the go (i mean not using your WiFi connection but the Internet data plan of 250MB) then better ask your friends to send you lots of mail containing lots of photos coz you will need a lot of mail to use your 250MB.
• iPhone does not support Video call.
• iPhone camera is only 2MP.
• Camera has no auto focus can't adjust any settings at all .
• No office document editor.
• No copy/paste functionality.
• You cannot sync Notes and TO-DOs.
• iPhone does not have video Recording.
• No SMS forwarding.
• No memory slot(but knowing Apple there will never be one).
• Only Apple bluetooth headset compatible.
• Blue tooth support limited to headset use only not to TRANSFER files.
• We can get 3 iPhones for what we are paying during our contract. Just make 1259*12=15108 wich is the price of the iPhone16GB for the 1259/monthly offer. So indirectly you could buy 3 iPhones.
• No SO affordable for students and low income people although the subsidy is to make then iPhone at the reach of more people.(They probably me rich people- hmmm technology seem to be at the reach of hign income people only).
• iPhone does not play DivX - must only use compatible format unless we pray that someone creates an application that plays DivX format directly.
• Safari browser doesn't support Flash and Java, doesn't have a download manager .
• Publicite mensongere ou pas -when you go to an orange shop they will tell you that IF you use iPhone to call to a FIX phone it will cost you around Rs 2.00(i don't know why they said Rs 2.00 coz i think it should be 2.18) so 550mins makes Rs1100. But don't lets us get fooled, they are talking about fix,nowadays i think every Mauritian have a mobile phone and 550mins calls makes Rs550 with your mobile(we will be POSTPAID clients after we subscribe to an offer so each minute will cost us Rs 1.00)

• 550 mins to mobile only = Rs 550
• 200 SMS = Rs 100
• 250MB = Rs 200 (with your myT)

• Total = Rs 850

The 250MB is a complete loss though I am counting it as if we are downloading 250MB with MyT. So you are not paying 1259/monthly package but suppose about Rs 850 approximately(and not to forget that we loose our unused minutes) and so the remaining is Rs409(1259-850=409) .
But lets make
409*24 = 9816+iPhone16GB(15759)
= Rs25575
(i think its the price of an iPhone 16GB on ebay (around $525+shipping - seen on 20th December 2008).
